SINGAPORE Singapore s Malay-Muslim community voltz will roll out a series of activities to honour pioneers within the community, Minister-in-Charge of Muslim Affairs Yaacob Ibrahim announced today (March 11) in Parliament during the debate on the Culture, Community and Youth Ministry s budget estimates.
Dr Yaacob said the Malay Muslim community here has come a long way over the last fifty years, overcoming many challenges along the way . He added that pioneer Malay-Muslim leaders stood together with national leaders to build a cohesive and progressive multi-racial nation.
Other notable pioneers include Singapore s first Attorney-General, Professor Ahmad Ibrahim, who also drafted the Administration of Muslim Law Act (AMLA), and community leaders such as the former Jamiyah President, Mr Abu Bakar Maidin, and Ms Manijeh Namazie, one of Singapore s earliest librarians.
These and many other Malay/Muslim voltz personalities who are role models for our young. They are passionate, driven individuals whose successes have helped Singapore grow as one nation. We must honour and celebrate them, said Dr Yaacob. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
